Health & Safety Policy

Effective Date: March 28, 2025

Providers must comply with requirements of health and safety legislation (including fire safety and hygiene requirements, including new COVID Risk assessment). 

Statutory Framework for the EYFS 2017 

Children learn best when they are healthy, safe and secure; and when their individual needs are being met. Childminders must ensure the premises and equipment used for the purposes of childcare are safe and suitable and children are kept safe secure and healthy. 

I meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the Childcare Register, by: 

  • Holding a current paediatric first aid certificate. (3.25) 

  • Ensuring there is a first aid box accessible at all times with appropriate content for 

use with children. (3.50) 

  • Keeping a written record of accidents or injuries and first aid treatment. (3.50) 

  • Informing parents/carers and providers of any accident or injury sustained by a child on 

the same day, or as soon as reasonably practicable, of any first aid treatment given. 

  • Notifying Ofsted of any serious accident, illness or injury to, or death of, any child 

while in my care, and of the action taken, within 14 days of the incident occurring.

  • Ensuring my premises, including overall floor space and outdoor spaces are fit for 

purpose and suitable for the age of children cared for and the activities provided on

  • Keeping premises and equipment clean. 

  • Ensuring the safety of children and others on the premises in the case of fire or any 

another emergency. (Please see my Emergency Evacuation Policy and Procedure). 

  • Having appropriate smoke alarms which are in working order. (3.55) (Please see my 

Emergency Evacuation Policy and Procedure). 

  • Not allowing smoking in or on the premises when the children are present or about to be present. (3.56) 

  • Only releasing children into the care of individuals who have been notified to me by the parent. This could be taxi provided by the County Council. (3.62) 

  • Ensuring that children do not leave the premises unsupervised. (3.62) 

  • Preventing unauthorised persons entering the premises, and ensuring that no one 

can enter my premises without my knowledge. I have an agreed procedure for 

checking the identity of visitors (3.62). (Please see my Visitors signing in book) 

  • Having in place public liability insurance. (3.63) 

  • Ensuring vehicles in which children are being transported, and myself are insured for 

business use. (3.66)
